We need the word of the Lord in these days of shaking. As the Lord instructed us in 1 Cor. 14:1 we should “desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.” Prophecy is a gift, but are we willing to accept prophecy in the package that it comes in? Often, we aren’t. There was a time when I wasn’t.
Sometimes when prophecy comes, the prophet is affected by the Spirit of God. Sometimes they shake or fall down, or something even more dramatic! This was the case when King Saul was pursuing David. When Saul found where David was, he sent soldiers to capture David but “when they arrived … the Spirit of God came upon Saul’s men and they began to prophesy.” We know that they were incapacitated in some fashion, because they did not arrest David, and Saul sent two other groups of soldiers who also had the same thing happen. Finally, Saul himself went and “the Spirit of God came even upon Saul and he too, began to prophesy all the way to Naioth! He tore off his clothes and lay naked on the ground all day and all night prophesying.” (1Sam. 19).
The spirit of prophecy was so powerful that soldiers where incapacitated and Saul was in such a state that he lay naked! It was such a powerful experience “the people who were watching exclaimed “what is even Saul a prophet?” Certainly, having a jealous king overcome by the spirit of prophecy to the point of prophesying for hours on end completely naked is something people would notice!
Similar things are still happening today. Two weeks ago, before I preached, my head began shaking back and forth. I then prophesied:
I am here to comfort. I am here to reassure. I’m here to hold your hand. I’m here to walk with you. I am the God that sees. I am the God that knows. Is there anything impossible for Me? I’m here for you now. I’m here for you now. And I will show My hand of strength. Do not fear My children, I will show My hand of strength.

The shaking back and forth of the head is something that other prophetic people do. Stacey Campbell in her book Ecstatic Prophecy chronicles how, throughout history, prophets were affected and shook in various ways.
Some people may look at how my head shook and say, “That’s weird. I don’t like that.” I get that. Until I read Stacey’s book, I felt that way. Stacey herself often shakes her head back and forth. I remember saying to myself, “Stacey, can’t you stop being emotional and dramatic! Just be normal!” I wanted the gift, but not the package it came in. I wanted God to communicate on my terms, not His. I was so wrong.
We want the Spirit of God to speak to us and if it comes with shaking or incapacitation, we say, “Yes Lord.” Please read the prophetic word and judge for yourself if it is from God. I trust it would reassure and comfort you that the Lord is with you and that He will show His hand of strength on your behalf.
